Over - Over - OVER - Whelm !!!

*note - I'm trying to fix the glitch in my email

Alrighty then, so it's already July 7th - we've all made our grand entrances into summer. Kids are out of school...sun is shining...weather is HOT !!!
And my great summer to-do-list is staring me in the face every morning when I wake up. I wake up at dawn before the stifling heat & humidity take over my day. I sit on my deck (omg - I freakin love this deck!!!)
I drink strong coffee with almond milk and let my hatchling sleep in. I get out my journal, my favourite Sharpie, and open the otherwise known as "the bible for my life" to the back section where the SUMMER 2011 TO-DO List is.
Ahhhhhh!!!!
Cripes...!!
I am overwhelmed. Why do I think I can accomplish more in the next 2 months than I did all year? Not one thing, NOT ONE, is crossed off yet.

My blog is a mess...still trying to adjust widgets and xml and html codes to personalize a pre-made template I found on the net...time to go back to minima maybe?
My apartment is finally unpacked but it's been a hot & humid, steady 85 degrees F. up here for weeks,(feels like 90, as the weather guy likes to say), and I find it too exhausting to sort through the "stuff", arrange the furniture, set the right lamps in the right places, hang the pictures and all those energy-sucking little projects that make a house (or in this case, an apartment), a home. Instead a dull, throbbing heat-induced headache has trumped most of my days.
Dentist appointments I'd rather die than show up for, my car sitting in some mechanic's garage getting a new battery and I have no idea if it's even still there because I can't afford to pay the "ransom" on it. Income tax I still haven't filed ( I know - wtf? - procrastinator much?). A million resumes to prepare and deliver so I don't have to pick strawberries with foreign women at 5 a.m. for 1960's wages.
Perpetually cutting up fresh fruits and veggies for my hatchling to eat because it's just too hot to be hungry. And if I do attempt to cook something in our tiny apartment, the stove heats the place to over 100 degrees - no thanks. I fill our 2 Brita water pitchers constantly. Searching for a used air-conditioner that will fit my odd window size, when everyone who is lucky enough to have one, wants a million dollars for it (because they know they can get that much in this heat).
A laundry pile that almost reaches the ceiling of my closet, a sink full of dishes because I just cannot fathom standing over a sink full of hot soapy water to get them done. (maybe if I put my Walmart fan pointing at me - hmmm?....I may have just had a lightbulb moment?).

So I do what I do best when I'm overwhelmed. I say f*ck it.  I take my kid to the nearest bus stop and we hang out at the air-conditioned mall, walking around and sipping iced drinks, to survive at least the hottest part of the day.

Kudos to this cafe in Toronto's Kensington Market....pic taken last summer
So how's your summer so far?

peace & huge kick-ass thunderstorms please!
(Happy Birthday V. wherever you are)

Insanity by Mosquito ?

Public Service Announcement from the boho mom....
If you like to go, you know, OUTSIDE in the summer, here's a tip!

I don't know about your area, but where I live the mosquitoes seem to be bigger, more aggressive, and out for blood in droves, more than in past years. OY! Me & hatching are covered in itchy bites!

I found a solution that works for us. The nice, helpful, wonderful, sanity and skin saving girl who works in our local health food stored told me....

Lemon Eucalyptus Oil
Go get some now....do not pass go, do not collect $200 - just go get it now and your summer may be saved from the wrath of the mosquito ! I mixed the essential oil with our sweet almond carrier oil that I already had.....and it freakin works!!!!

*My hatchling is a teenager, so I don't know how this is with little ones...I'd advise you to check it out first.

peace out!

Mr. Sun - bring it on!!!!

It's here, offically, genuinely, beautifully here! Summer, with it's sunshine but also sweltering humidity -(blahhh-something you non-Canadians wouldn't expect we get up here.), and omg - mosquitoes the size of Godzilla!!! But it's here and after a long, cold,  snowy and pretty much, an unproductive winter, I won't complain that it's over 85 degrees F. in our apartment most days.

My hatchling has completed her first year of high school -YAY!!!, and exams; and made the honour roll...(((((applause)))), and we're settling into our new rodent-free apartment quite nicely and I. AM. SO. HAPPY!

.
We've been spending evenings on our back deck with this view...

Hatchling drumming and welcoming in summer at our Soltice celebration, because that's how we roll!

Clusters of local fruit farms are so so so close to my home, and not 1, not 2, but 3 local Farmer's Markets!!
Consuming as much as possible of the Mother Earth's gifts...

And acres of pick-your-own-fruit fields. The thing I miss most about having a car is bringing my hatchling picking fruit. So every chance I get to hitch a ride with someone, I go for it!

Me & hatchling hanging out and lounging and lunching with loved ones at their home...we were treated like royalty...(I felt like I was on a retreat!)

And here's me, a little out of my element, but loving it just the same. I'm more attracted to the organic beaches and polluted waters of Lake Erie...lol

*peace & prayers to the Great Spirit in the summer sky to help me find an affordable air conditioner!!!
