*note - I'm trying to fix the glitch in my email
Alrighty then, so it's already July 7th - we've all made our grand entrances into summer. Kids are out of school...sun is shining...weather is HOT !!!
And my great summer to-do-list is staring me in the face every morning when I wake up. I wake up at dawn before the stifling heat & humidity take over my day. I sit on my deck (omg - I freakin love this deck!!!)
I drink strong coffee with almond milk and let my hatchling sleep in. I get out my journal, my favourite Sharpie, and open the otherwise known as "the bible for my life" to the back section where the SUMMER 2011 TO-DO List is.
Ahhhhhh!!!!
Cripes...!!
I am overwhelmed. Why do I think I can accomplish more in the next 2 months than I did all year? Not one thing, NOT ONE, is crossed off yet.
My blog is a mess...still trying to adjust widgets and xml and html codes to personalize a pre-made template I found on the net...time to go back to minima maybe?
My apartment is finally unpacked but it's been a hot & humid, steady 85 degrees F. up here for weeks,(feels like 90, as the weather guy likes to say), and I find it too exhausting to sort through the "stuff", arrange the furniture, set the right lamps in the right places, hang the pictures and all those energy-sucking little projects that make a house (or in this case, an apartment), a home. Instead a dull, throbbing heat-induced headache has trumped most of my days.
Dentist appointments I'd rather die than show up for, my car sitting in some mechanic's garage getting a new battery and I have no idea if it's even still there because I can't afford to pay the "ransom" on it. Income tax I still haven't filed ( I know - wtf? - procrastinator much?). A million resumes to prepare and deliver so I don't have to pick strawberries with foreign women at 5 a.m. for 1960's wages.
Perpetually cutting up fresh fruits and veggies for my hatchling to eat because it's just too hot to be hungry. And if I do attempt to cook something in our tiny apartment, the stove heats the place to over 100 degrees - no thanks. I fill our 2 Brita water pitchers constantly. Searching for a used air-conditioner that will fit my odd window size, when everyone who is lucky enough to have one, wants a million dollars for it (because they know they can get that much in this heat).
A laundry pile that almost reaches the ceiling of my closet, a sink full of dishes because I just cannot fathom standing over a sink full of hot soapy water to get them done. (maybe if I put my Walmart fan pointing at me - hmmm?....I may have just had a lightbulb moment?).
So I do what I do best when I'm overwhelmed. I say f*ck it. I take my kid to the nearest bus stop and we hang out at the air-conditioned mall, walking around and sipping iced drinks, to survive at least the hottest part of the day.

wahh! thats hot! our summer started in april and for the past week we have had rain, sun and high winds at night~a weird old combination!
i just love the water!
and...
BREEEEEEEEEATHING....... with you.
;)
there's a reason i'm an anti-to-do-lister lol
egads! i'm feelin' you on the heat/humidity factor.
it's ridiculous.
oh - and to-do lists in this heat are a NO-NO...absolutely no EFFING way.
so yeah -- sip cool drinks and find the a/c.....the other stuff will wait 'til fall...or late august, anyway...;)
that's my mantra anyway...:D
xo
I always thought washing dishes with "cold" water was a refreshing thing to do?! In Feng Shui they recommend working and playing with water to calm the spirits.
Whew! We've got it hot here too. Ninety degrees for two weeks now and humidty like the deep south. Anyway, seems I am not the only one overwhelmed this summer, I blogged about it just this morn. I have to agree with Simony, though, doing dishes in cold water works just as well, you just may need a little more elbow grease on the tough stuff. Good luck, wishing you refreshing rains.
So Ontario is getting one of those infamously hot and painful summers?! That sucks and having to move on top of it? Brutal! I am glad you are wise and getting relief in air conditioned spaces my friend. Good luck with the move too!
You + dentist = Me + upcoming colonoscopy :)
This summer is flying by. In two weeks we leave for Lake Placid for Breen's Ironman. I don't care too much for the summer so I'll be glad to see the Fall come.
I say, just ditch the summer to do list and kick your feet up with iced coffee, blogging and a few good books :))
I live in New Mexico. Everyone has air conditioning here. Is it always hot in the summer there and is it common to not have AC? Forgive my silly questions but I have no idea what your weather is like there. From your pictures it looks beautiful.
Hi debi - yeah, it can be quite beautiful, but Southern Ontario is famous for humid summers. And most everyone does have air-conditioning except the poor people - (me)lol
It is 11a.m. right now and 89 degrees inside my apartment...days like this, with no money to go anywhere are excruciating.
I'm trying to overcome unpacking-itis and I've been spending the weekend playing hooky from my responsibilities to household tasks and I've been creating. :) Got to take care of the soul. Stay cool and good vibes you get some relief.
Hope you are staying cool and taking deep breaths! xo Samantha
