Not THAT Bohemian!

* First of all, it's good to be back writing here. My blog is my saviour, my creative outlet, my own, where I record my truth, fears, hopes, dreams, failures, and successes along my path as a single mom. I've missed this sacred space, and my connection with you all.
It was a long, cold winter with lots of snow, no employment, thus no internet. Hope you like my new blog design, still tweaking this and that and trying to figure out CSS codes, etc. It's all good and things are finally starting to look up for me. Hatchling has successfully breezed through her first year of high school and I'm so proud of her.

it's official - she's taller than me now!

Now we all know any self-respecting bohemian wouldn't think of caging an animal, however feral; just as you'll never find a mouse trap in a bohemian's abode. And, I've lived in some pretty run-down,(but worth the cheaper rent)apartments where I've had to paint, paper, and patch holes to make a comfy home for hatchling and me, AND I've adored every corner of every home we've ever lived at....that is, until recently.....
Let's go on a picture tour, shall we?, of some of my favourite boho decor over the years.....

ummm....NOT!

That's right, rats! The ONE time I decide to live a bit more conventionally in an apartment building with streamlined metal mailboxes with locks lined up in the foyer; an on site laundry room (never underestimate the glorious power of having on site laundry facilities), and a live-in superintendent, and I end up in a rat-infested building. Well, guess what? I'm not THAT bohemian!
I can make a door out of a curtain, score a coffee table from a dumpster, and make bookshelves out of milkcrates, but I cannot, will not and won't allow my hatchling to live with rats.
Horrible, filthy and fast with their creepy long tails running around the outside of our building. I saw baby rats too, and shocked even myself as I had to confess there is nothing cute about them.
So after several arguments with slumlord owner of building (who lives in the big city and owns several apartment buildings and has absolutely no intentions of dealing with the problem), I decided to move AGAIN! (So have half the tenants of that place). The same day we moved out, 4 other apartments vacated. There were trucks and trailers and U-hauls jamming up the parking lot. Oh the joys, the memories my hatchling will carry with her of "the apartment with the rats"!

It was an exhausting move, and one of the rare times I've moved where it actually cost me money. I usually gather a bunch of friends and we jam everything into their collective cars, vans & pick-up trucks. But this time I wasn't very organized, just wanted out fast, and had to pay a guy and his truck for his services. And another guy, because I am sick and tired to death, of carrying that same old one end of a couch, and all our other stuff.

So here we are, happy and beginning again, in our new rodent-free apartment, a 3rd floor walk-up that will keep me in shape...and it's even $40 cheaper a month! Score!
Me & hatchling both had our friends help out with the tedious task of unpacking and feng-shui-ing this and decluttering that. Moving for me, and all that packing and loading and unpacking has become almost second nature, sort of robotic and as familiar and uneventful as making coffee in the morning. But that is not to say I want to go through it again for awhile. Things are finally starting to look up!

peace out!
good to be back!

Oh my ! it must be yr. of the rat lol we've been moved out too , at my mother's place and my ds 15 found a dead rat in her basemnet ! we think he slipped in via a window with no screen that ds21 left open . I had no idea rats lived in the forest either .
I have a fear of rodents I just do. I awoke one night while sleeping in my hammack in MX to a big fat rat staring me right in the face ! dh had tied our food bag up in the center of the room so rats could not get at it .the rats figured if they went down the hammack they could reach the bag ! we slept in our tent indoors as well as out after that lol
we now have a squirel in the cottage we are supposed to be staying in but I'm not moving into it until squirel is out !
I'm happy you said no to slumlord !
