Heal the World

It seems that this, the summer of 2009, has been one of retrospection. With the deaths of so many celebrities this summer, like Michael Jackson and Walter Cronkite, Ed McMahon, David Caradine, Farrah Fawcett, and Eunice Shriver -the sister of the infamous Kennedy brothers.
It's been a time of retrospection for me. This summer also brought the highly publicized 40 year anniversary of Woodstock's peace & love festival and Charles Manson's murder spree, both of which received a lot of media attention.

Many, many nights, I've gone into my daughter's room at night just to watch her sleep. She's growing up so fast... life flies by so quickly if you don't pay attention; if you don't stop once in awhile to catch your breath.

I cannot believe I live in what will be known to future generations as the "Michael Jackson era" witnessing both his rise to pop icon fame, and his descent into what eventually killed him. I remember the moon landing, Elvis's death, the murder of John Lennon, the space shuttle blowing up less than a minute after take-off, O.J. Simpson getting away with murder, and of course 9/11.

It's a huge world and sometimes I wonder if we're "hardwired" to retain so much knowledge of what's going on out there. Our ancestors knew only what went on in their own backyard, so to speak, and now with satellites and the Internet, we all have incredibly overloaded brains... way too much information to process in a day.

I can't help but wonder what my daughter will see & know & witness on this planet as she grows into an adult.

So in honour of all who suffered and passed during the summer of 2009, (and 1969), celebrities or not, I embedded this powerful video that my hatchling selected from youtube.

Wishing you all a safe Labour Day weekend, and a happy end of summer. Remember to stop and smell those roses.

Thank-you Michael Jackson.
